CT NAACP to Establish Talent Bank

State Agency to Serve as Resource for State Commissions, Positions

HARTFORD – Following a meeting today with Governor M. Jodi Rell, State Conference President Scot X. Esdaile today has announced that the NAACP will establish a talent bank.
“We are grateful to Governor Rell for her willingness to hear our concerns and talk about ways to address them,” Esdaile said. “Today’s meeting was a step in the right direction – now we must continue the forward movement.”
The NAACP Talent Bank will serve as a resource for potential task force members, commissioner appointees and other high-level employees. The NAACP will partner with the African American Affairs Commission, the Black and Hispanic Caucus and the Connecticut Minority Supplier Development Council in establishing the talent bank.
In addition, Esdaile announced that the NAACP and the aforementioned partners will be holding a series of town hall meetings throughout the state to discuss educational, criminal justice and health disparities. These dialogues will be documented in a report that will be provided to the Governor’s Office.
“While we appreciate the Governor’s openness to resolving the lack of minority representation in state government, we also realize this is just the tip of the iceberg” Esdaile said. “From the cradle to the classroom to the prison cell, we have unacceptable gaps between minorities and whites in Connecticut . The challenge is to address not only what goes on at the state level, but what happens on the streets every day for people of color living in Connecticut . ”
The first town hall meeting will be scheduled within the next few weeks. Please call (860) 727-9962 for more information.
